Birth Books Read in 2015

Reading is one of my hobbies and I definitely enjoy birth-related books. In 2015, I read two fiction books and three memoirs.
  • Arms Wide Open (Patricia Harman)
  • The Midwife of Hope River (Patricia Harman)
  • The Reluctant Midwife (Patricia Harman)
  • Farewell to the East End (Jennifer Worth)
  • Bundles of Joy (Linda Fairley)

I read almost every book written by Patricia Harman with the exception of Blue Cotton Gown . Her first book, Arms Wide Open, details her journey to midwifery including her adventures in communal living. The Midwife of Hope River was her first fiction work and I loved it. Then I read the sequel, The Reluctant Midwife, which turned out to be my favorite fiction book of the year despite the other 10 works of fiction on my book list. I highly recommend it!

I also finished the last of the Jennifer Worth books, which is what the TV series, Call The Midwife, is based on.

Bundles of Joy was also another good memoir based out of England and it was interesting to see how the hospital and community midwives worked together.

If you are looking for birth books to read, I have a whole list available on my GoodReads account. Check out my birth-related bookshelf with almost 40 titles.

What are some of your favorite birth-related books? I'd love to add more to my list for 2016.

I'm a big fan of this program. To date, 100% of the Hypnobabies students I have worked with have achieved an unmedicated birth. I'm such a believer, that I became a Certified Hypnobabies Hypnodoula back in 2012.

If this appeals to you, I would encourage you to check out their website or contact me with any questions. Many of my clients have used their self-study program.

I'm also excited to announce that we have a new Hypnobabies Class instructor in the Nashville area. Sarah Cowan of Rising Moon Nashville will be hosting classes in Hermitage starting next month.
